Past Role of the Friends of Historic Dilston (FoHD)
FoHD’s involvement with Dilston Castle and Chapel goes back many years, during which time an amicable and positive relationship with MENCAP (then owners) was established. From 1993, founder members of FoHD, with the support of past Principals of Dilston College, carried out conservation work to the castle, mounted exhibitions and held fund-raising events; this ground work raising wider awareness of the plight of Dilston Castle and Chapel prior to their restoration by North Pennines Heritage Trust. When the Trust subsequently applied for and acquired Heritage Lottery Grants for the HISTORIC DILSTON site in 2001 and 2007 founder members of FoHD assisted in the process.
